This outstanding result, achieved in a specially equipped auto raceway of ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg GmbH in Germany, continues the company's legendary list of high-speed test runs that have broken world records.

These amazing stories started more than 14 years ago in June 2010: the world record for top speed was set by Veyron 16.4 Super Sport at 431.07 km/h. Since then, the company continued to perfect the art of engineering and speed. And made its mark in the annals of automobile history and reinforcing this year’s theme of open-top performance, setting new records.

It was Bugatti Pilote Officiel Andy Wallace a Le Mans 24 Hours winner who took the reins of the one-off W16 Mistral World Record Car for this record-making endeavor. Starting with the first lap that would help rig the special high-performance tires installed in the car properly, Wallace systematically conducted some settings on the car that were prerequisites for the record-breaking exercise. Step by step, he increased to 200 km/h on the banking of the wall of the track, smoothly gaining the necessary power of W16 Mistral. Just as the banking commenced the straight, Wallace opened the lob at the hypercar, reaching extraordinary speeds.

Finally, an extraordinary bending of speed limits came to an end and a new world top-speed record for an open-top car was ratified; Wallace, indeed hit 453.91 km/h.
