Honda To Focus On Hyrbid Engines for Small & Mid Size Cars
Honda, which had just announced its Merger With Nissan and Mitsubishi is focussing on hybrid powertrains.
WHAT IS ATKINSON CYCLE?
The Atkinson Cycle is a type of ICE which provides higher-efficiency and also reduces emissions.
Atkinson cycles are generally used with hybrids as the lower torque produced is compensated by the electric motor.
Honda's i-VTEC uses the original-Atkinson cycle principles.
The Most Compact Engine Is The 1.5-liter Atkinson Cycle DOHC i-VTEC Engine.
Honda has stated that the engines will offer Higher-Combustion efficiency over its existing 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engines.
It has also claimed that the 1.5-litre unit can widen its efficient RPM range .
The brand is also adopting weight-saving techniques to make the driving experience more engaging.
BREAKING:- HONDA REVEALS ALL-NEW MID-SIZE PLATFORM:-
Honda has also unveiled a new mid-size platform. It is to be used by future electrified cars and is expected to save a whopping 90KGS but as we know the additional weight will come in terms of a battery.
Whilst Honda has unveiled it will be introducing an all-new platform, it is still unknown if it would be a skateboard platform or not.
Honda also plans to use the same platform for various models and save cost as different Chassis would include a lot more R&D costs, etc.
Personally, it would be interesting to see the integration of Honda's LEGENDARY V-TEC engines paired with an Electric Motor.
It is still unknown if these platforms would make its way to the Indian market.
