Volkswagen Golf GTI First Batch Sold Out in India, Second Batch Planned for 2025

Volkswagen has confirmed that all 150 units of the first batch of the Golf GTI allocated for India have been fully pre-booked. The bookings opened earlier this month, ahead of the official price reveal set for May 26, 2025. While a few cancellations may occur post-pricing announcement, the overwhelming response has prompted Volkswagen to prepare a second batch of 100 units for India, with deliveries expected next year.
India-Spec Golf GTI: What to Expect
The India-spec Golf GTI comes in a single, fully loaded configuration. Powering the hot hatch is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 265hp, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels. Key highlights include:
- Electronically controlled limited-slip differential
- Launch control
- Paddle shifters
- IQ.Light LED headlamps
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Panoramic sunroof
- Sporty front seats
- 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment
- Digital instrument cluster
- Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
The GTI will be available in four paint options: Moonstone Grey, Kings Red, Onyx White, and Grenadilla Black.
Price & Positioning
Volkswagen is expected to price the Golf GTI at around ₹54 lakh (ex-showroom), with on-road prices crossing ₹60 lakh in certain cities. This places the GTI between the Mini Cooper S (₹44.90–₹55.90 lakh) and the high-performance Mercedes-AMG A 45 S (₹94.80 lakh), offering a unique blend of performance, practicality, and heritage in the premium hot hatch space.

What’s Next?
A company spokesperson hinted that Volkswagen is open to bringing in the more potent, 328hp all-wheel-drive Golf R at a later stage, or even offering the GTI with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for enthusiasts seeking more customizable driving dynamics.
With the GTI finally touching Indian tarmac, the country’s hot hatch scene just got a lot more serious.
