Maruti Nexa Baleno Catches Fire in Thane Traffic: Owner Alleges Dealership Negligence

Thane, Maharashtra – In a serious incident that unfolded in the middle of dense traffic, Aman Negi, a resident of Palava City in Kalyan, witnessed his Maruti Nexa Baleno catch fire while driving through Thane.
According to Aman, the car suddenly shut down amidst bumper-to-bumper traffic. Moments later, he noticed flames coming from the engine bay. On exiting the vehicle to assess the situation, he found the hood latch damaged and was unable to open it — a detail clearly visible in a video recorded at the scene.
He attempted to extinguish the fire using two fire extinguishers and received additional help from a passing water truck that supplied high-pressure water. Despite these efforts, the fire caused major damage to the vehicle.

Aman stated over a phone call that the Baleno had recently undergone servicing at Maruti Nexa located in Shilphata — approximately 10 km from the site of the incident. He mentioned that it had been just about a month since the service. Upon contacting the dealership for urgent assistance, Aman claims the staff refused to send any help and told him to manage the situation on his own.

Negi confirmed that the vehicle had run approximately 14,000 km and had no aftermarket modifications or fitments at the time of the fire.
An FIR has been filed at a police station in Thane, and the case is currently under investigation.
