The Wait Is Over! Tesla Is Finally Here: First Showroom Opens July 15

The Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are expected to be debut products from American EV-maker in India
After years of discussions and negotiations between American EV giant Tesla and the Indian government, we finally have official confirmation: Tesla is set to make its long-awaited debut in India. Tesla is set to establish its first showroom on our shores in Mumbai, on July 15. According to some reports and speculation, Tesla is likely to run its sales and service operations directly through company-owned outlets instead of franchise-based models.
In February 2025, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, held a detailed meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Washington. Following this, several test mules were brought to India for testing and homologation, and now the EV maker is finally set to inaugurate its first showroom in the country.
What Models to Expect?

According to recent reports, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are expected to be the debut offerings from the EV maker in India. Depending on market response, the company may later expand its portfolio to include other models such as the Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck.
Why So Much Delay?

In its repeated efforts to establish a foothold in India, Tesla initially sought to explore the market by importing vehicles from abroad and selling them locally. The company also urged the Indian government to lower import duties on completely built units (CBUs). However, the government insisted that Tesla set up a manufacturing hub within the country. While Tesla has yet to establish such a facility, it is expected to make significant investments to localize its offerings for the Indian market.
