New KTM 690 Rally spied testing in Europe

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is preparing to broaden its 690 series with the anticipated release of the KTM 690 Rally. Despite facing bankruptcy proceedings, KTM remains committed to innovation and bringing newer models. Recent spy photographs from Europe showcase a test model that appears close to production, featuring notable design and mechanical enhancements.

Design and Features:

The 690 Rally exhibits a blend of design elements from the KTM 690 Enduro R and the limited-edition KTM 450 Rally Replica. It maintains the steel trellis frame, seat, under-seat fuel tank, wheels, brakes, and suspension components found in the 690 Enduro R. Distinctively, it incorporates a tall front windshield and vertically stacked projector headlights reminiscent of the 450 Rally Replica. Additionally, the 690 Rally features slim bodywork and two auxiliary fuel tanks on either side as well as a 13.6L under seat tank —beneficial for both off-road adventures and long-distance touring.

Engine and Performance:

Mechanically, the 690 Rally is expected to be powered by the same 693cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the 690 Enduro R, delivering approximately 74 bhp and 73.5 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a possibility of a slip-and-assist clutch. Despite the additional fuel tanks, the bike's weight is anticipated to be only slightly higher than the 690 Enduro R's 146 kg dry weight, maintaining a favorable power-to-weight ratio.

Pricing and Launch:

While KTM has not officially announced the pricing or launch date for the 690 Rally, it is expected to be positioned between the 690 Enduro R and the 890 Adventure. The 890 Adventure is priced at ₹15.80 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Given the advanced stage of testing, an official unveiling is anticipated in the coming months.
