HSRP Number-Plate Rule Enforced By Maharashtra Government For Pre 2019-Vehicles

WHAT IS HSRP? HOW DOES IT HELP?

- HSRP ( High- Security Number Plates ), these number plates increases the security of vehicles. Its much easier to track stolen vehicles.

Made of a rare Aluminium Alloy, is hot stamped on the top-left corner on both the sides. It contains a retro- reflective firm with India inscribed on it, A Chromium- based Ashoka Chakra hologram which is blue in colour.

GREAT INITIATIVE BUT CHAOTIC FOR OWNERS:-
The authorities have stated that the owners need to bear the cost of replacing their current number plate with the new theft-proof HSRP units.

Owners who fail to update their number plates will face penalties starting from April 1st 2024 and would face an uphill task managing the cops!

• The Vehicle Department will also prohibit other services such as Address Change, etc for owners who fail to update their number plate
  
  The Transport Office has assigned this task three agencies to provide HSRP based on different locations.
  
  According to the SOPs, Owners will have to book appointments through online portals( VAAHAN Portal) . Direct entry is prohibited.
  
  Installation appointments can be rescheduled within 90 days of the first booking date.
  
  

Challenges To Be Faced:-
- In Isolation, this initiative is useful as there are lesser chances of vehicles being stolen and easy to track vehicles. The main challenge faced would be the accomodation of so many vehicles to be registered in such a short span of time.
The portal should be available and the owners of vehicles should be aware of the rule in force and the procedure to be followed.
