Auto Expo 2025: The all electric BMW X1 LWB launched in India with the 'Made in india' Mark
BMW debuted the first-ever BMW X1 LWB, powered by the eDrive20L powertrain (all electric) at the Auto Expo 2025.
It has now received the 'Made in India' Mark, and local production is set up in the BMW Group Plant in Chennai.
This premium SUV is priced at an introductory price of Rs. 49 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The BMW iX1 LWB EV
As the name suggests, it is the biggest vehicle in its segment, with a length of 4,616mm and a wheelbase length of 2,800mm. It is also one of the longest 5-seater SUVs currently on offer in India.

With the increased dimensions, the car has a confident and powerful appearance to it, which makes it hard to ignore this car whenever it is on the road.
The modern design and bold, dominant stance highlight the SUV character. The upright front is unmistakable, thanks to a signature BMW kidney grille and segment-leading Adaptive LED headlights that extend well into the sides.
Features:
- The Fully Adaptive LED Headlights offer abundant throw for night-time driving as well as a cornering function to take on winding roads without breaking a sweat.
- The intelligent BMW High Beam Assistant takes care not to blind oncoming traffic during night-time driving. The side sketch has crisply sculpted surfaces generating an expressive interplay of light and shadow.
- The long roof line with Aluminium Satin roof rails, square wheel arch contours, and 18-inch M light alloy wheels complements the overall look.
- The rear design exudes power and solidity with a large surface diffuser and sculpted LED lights.
- The Interior has been given a modern touch and offers the largest rear cabin space in its segment.
- The widescreen curved display complements the interior, giving out a premium vibe with it.
- The clean and structured dashboard with ‘Aluminium Mesh effect’ trim is put together to blend in artistically with the Luxury Instrument Panel.
- The beige headliner creates the perfect two-tone feeling inside the cockpit to elevate aesthetics.
- M Sport steering wheel and the blue ring finisher logo give out a sporty vibe from the get-go.
- Decorative strips of ambient lighting in the instrument panel and front doors as well as a satin finish on door handles give a plush feeling to the interiors.
- The ergonomic floating armrest with storage integrates the control cluster.
- Multi-way electrically adjustable Sport seats on the front seats and comfortable, ergonomic plush seats in the rear with a maximum recline of 28.5 degrees.
- BMW is offering the largest Panoramic Sunroof in the segment for the iX1 LWB, spanning the cabin's length.
- Harman Kardon Sound system with 12 loudspeakers and 205W output delivers a concert-like experience.
Powertrain:
- Being an all-electric premium SUV, the BMW iX1 LWB runs on the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology (eDrive20L), a highly integrated drive unit within a single housing.
- The front axle electric motor has a single-speed transmission and produces an output of 204hp and a peak torque of 250Nm, giving out instant acceleration and great driving dynamics.
- The compact high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into the floor has a gross capacity of 66.4 kWh providing an MIDC driving range of 531 km.
- Smart features like one-pedal driving and adaptive recuperation increase the efficiency and range of the vehicle.
Battery charging and infrastructure:
The car is capable of fast and hassle-free charging.
Charging time for 130 kW DC Charger: 10%-80% in 29 min (120 km added range in 10 min) and for 11 kW AC Charger: 0%-100% in about 6 hr 30 min.
The iX1 LWB comes with a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger with installation which enables safe and convenient charging up to 11kW.
BMW Group India claims to have one of the best charging networks in the luxury segment with fast chargers at BMW dealer network in 35 cities.
A complimentary 5-year BMW Roadside Assistance is available round the clock and ensures that customers are well taken care of in emergencies.
Features like portable High Voltage Battery Chargers and Puncture Repair Kit are also available for owners of BMW iX1 LWB as part of Road Side Assistance.
With the first-in-industry Charging Concierge, customers can access on-call assistance in planning longer journeys through route recommendations based on active chargers.
The Charging Concierge allows them to activate these chargers by prepaying for the usage using a unified payment gateway.
Such services provided by BMW enhance the customer experience.
Safety
- BMW Safety technologies include extensive Driver Assistance Systems like: Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assistant, Cruise Control with Braking Function, Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Protection and Attentiveness Assistant.
- Other standard safety features are eight airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and an electric parking brake with auto hold.
- Side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobilizer and crash sensors, Tubeless Tyres with Tyre Pressure Indicator, ISOFIX child seat mounting, integrated tyre repair kit and acoustic protection for pedestrians.
There's no doubt that BMW has gone above and beyond in terms of safety too in the iX1 LWB.

Overall, the first-ever BMW iX1 LWB is yet another solid product in the premium SUV market and also a potential benchmark in the EV segment with a load of features and space.

Only time will tell whether this all-electric premium SUV, 'Made in India', will make its mark or not.
