Bengaluru-Tumakuru highway (NH-48) on Saturday Morning witnessed a fatal crash involving a Volvo XC 90 and a speeding container lorry that lost control. The SUV was carrying six occupants, Chandram Yegapagol (48), MD of IAST Software Solutions, Gourabai Yegapagol (42), his wife, Gyan Yegapagol (16), his son, Deeksha Yegapagol (12), his daughter, Arya Yegapagol (6), his daughter; Vijayalakshmi (36), his sister-in-law who are now deceased.

What Happened?

A speeding container lorry heading towards Bengaluru lost control, climbed over the median, and collided with an Eicher truck near Nelamangala. On impact, the container fell on the SUV crushing it and claiming the lives of all six. The lorry and the truck driver sustained minor injuries and are being treated in the hospital. The Nelamangala Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating this tragic accident.

This accident has shown us that even the safest car in the world cannot protect one in such extreme cases. No matter how good or skilled you are, it takes just one impatient idiot to end it all. Hopefully, the government realizes the urgent need for better safety infrastructure, preventive measures, and strict traffic measures to mitigate the risk of such mishaps.
