Unauthorized Person Fatally Ingested into Engine at Milan Bergamo Airport, Operations Suspended

Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) was closed earlier today following a serious incident involving a taxiing aircraft and an unauthorized individual who gained access to the airside area.

Initial reports suggest that the individual, who was not affiliated with the airport as a passenger or employee, breached security and entered the apron while being pursued by local police. During this sequence, the person reportedly made contact with one of the engines of the aircraft.

The aircraft involved is a Volotea Airbus A319-100, registered EC-MTF, and currently leased from AerCap. The aircraft was operating as Flight V73511 from Milan Bergamo to Asturias. It was observed coming to a complete stop at 08:40 UTC, and later disappeared from radar at 09:23 UTC.

No injuries to crew or passengers on board have been reported.

Authorities are currently investigating how the individual managed to breach security. The airport remains closed and the area has been secured by local officials.
