Scorpio N Reimagined As A Pickup: Scorpio X
Mahindra
The company has trademarked the 'Scorpio X' brand, the company had earlier addressed that the Scorpio line-up will expand in the future with more options. Mahindra showcased the Global Pik Up concept last year. This pickup, likely to be addressed as the Scorpio X, will be based on the “next-generation ladder on frame chassis” that has been designed to get good scores in Global NCAP and Euro NCAP crash tests.
The vehicle will be aggressive and muscular in design with its body lines being sharp, having ample cladding and high ground clearance that will enable it to conquer difficult terrains. The ruggedness of the vehicle’s exterior also increases its off-road capabilities as well as the road presence it commands.
The vehicle will be borrowing some key features from the Scorpio N, to improve its ergonomics and ease of operation. Such elements are the front fascia and the front doors which are strongly integrated and this brings in strength and beauty. The Scorpio N has been well thought out with its interior design. The steering wheel fits well in one’s hands, has decent instrumentation that delivers relevant vehicle information, and has comfortable and supportive seats for long travels.
These design and functional aspects guarantee that the vehicle can combine ruggedness and practicality with premium looks capable of appealing to adventurous drivers and other users of the car on a daily basis.
Considering the fact that the Scorpio X is the next vehicle in the line of Scorpio N platform one could expect Mahindra to offer the Scorpio X with petrol and diesel engines. Nevertheless, given its design as a pickup truck and the market in which it competes – it also includes the Isuzu V-Cross and Toyota Hilux. It is likely that Mahindra will include a single diesel engine for the Scorpio X.
This is what Mahindra seems to be good at, diesel powertrains, with the versatile 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine which comes in two configurations.
This would not only ensure sufficient performance but also enhance its ability to compete against rivals in the segment.
With a new diesel heart, the Scorpio X will likely be paired with a plethora of powerful alternative drivetrain configurations in a move to make it a versatile and powerful contender among pickup trucks.
