Lamborghini’s Soaring Success in India: Order Books Full Until 2027

India’s luxury car market is experiencing an unprecedented surge, driven by a growing class of ultra-high-net-worth individuals eager to own high-performance machines. Brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini have seen a significant uptick in demand, particularly among younger buyers. This rapid expansion, particularly post-pandemic, has fueled record-breaking sales across the premium automotive sector.

Lamborghini’s Unstoppable Momentum

Among the luxury automakers riding this wave, Lamborghini has emerged as a standout performer. The Italian marque’s order books in India are fully committed until 2027, underscoring the brand’s immense popularity. With a portfolio that includes the Huracán, Urus, and Revuelto—priced between ₹4 crore and ₹8.89 crore (excluding taxes and import duties)—Lamborghini continues to dominate the high-performance car segment. Notably, these models are imported as fully built units, attracting a hefty 100% customs duty.

Lamborghini’s Rising Sales in India

Automobili Lamborghini Chairman & CEO Stephan Winkelmann has acknowledged India as a key growth market, highlighting its immense potential. “India, for us, is an asset. There is huge potential for the future. The average Lamborghini buyer in India is under 40 years old, making it our youngest customer base globally after China,” he stated.

The brand recorded its best-ever sales figures in 2024, delivering 113 units—a 10% increase over 2023. For the first time, Lamborghini crossed the three-digit annual sales mark in India, further solidifying its foothold in the market. The Urus SUV remains the brand’s bestseller, accounting for nearly 50% of total sales. Demand is so high that order books for the Urus alone are booked out for the next 18 months. In response to this momentum, Lamborghini is now actively expanding its dealership network in India, which currently consists of three locations in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

Luxury Market Boom: Mercedes-Maybach Joins the Race

Lamborghini isn’t the only brand experiencing explosive growth. Mercedes-Maybach has reported a staggering 145% sales increase in India for 2024. Daniel Lescow, Global Head of Mercedes-Maybach, emphasized the country’s significance in the brand’s global strategy. “India is already among our top 10 markets worldwide and has the potential to break into the top five. There’s immense untapped potential and a rising demand for luxury here.”

The Future of Luxury Cars in India

With an increasing number of affluent buyers and a demographic shift toward younger ownership, India is swiftly emerging as a crucial market for luxury automakers. The appetite for ultra-premium vehicles is stronger than ever, and brands are responding by expanding their presence and offerings. As the luxury automotive sector continues its rapid ascent, industry leaders are keeping a keen eye on India—now one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury car markets.
