Bajaj working on a new 125cc bike

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to strengthen its position in the highly competitive 125cc and 150–160cc motorcycle segments in FY26. In FY25, more than 40 percent of Bajaj’s overall motorcycle sales came from its 125cc-plus models, while around 22 percent was contributed by the 150–160cc-plus category.

Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto, has forecast that the 125cc-plus segment is set to grow in FY26 outpacing the broader industry. Bajaj aims to bridge the gap by launching fresh products and increasing the market share.

Bajaj is developing an all-new entry-level 125 cc bike, slated for launch in FY26. The brand already offers four 125 cc models namely Pulsar 125, NS125, N125, and the innovative Freedom CNG bike. Bajaj is evaluating whether to revive discontinued models like the CT125X or the Discover for the new model, apart from this further details are yet to be known.

In FY21, Bajaj Auto held approximately 20 percent of the 125 cc-plus segment; that figure climbed to about 25.5 percent by FY24 before easing slightly to 24 percent in FY25. Despite the marginal dip, Bajaj is confident that its new launches will help recapture momentum and continue its upward trajectory in a segment that now rivals the executive 100 cc market.

The upcoming 125 cc model would probably enter a crowded field of sporty offerings. Rivals include the Hero Xtreme 125R, TVS Raider, and Honda SP 125. Bajaj’s detailed analysis of sub-segments will determine whether this bike joins the Pulsar family or re-energizes the CT or Discover brands. The goal is to deliver a compelling value proposition, especially for riders seeking a blend of performance, affordability, and everyday usability
