2026 Mahindra Bolero New-Gen Spied – A Modern Twist on a Classic Workhorse
The Mahindra Bolero has been a household name in India for years, known for its rugged reliability and no-nonsense design. Now, it’s making headlines once again, thanks to the upcoming next-generation model that’s been spotted testing. This new version aims to elevate the Bolero’s appeal with a more premium design and positioning, possibly setting the stage for a bold comeback.

Recent spy shots have given us a clear look at the side profile of the upcoming Bolero. Compared to the current Bolero Neo, the new-gen model appears far more refined. Its cleaner, more upright silhouette is drawing comparisons to the Land Rover Defender 110 – a big compliment in terms of road presence and timeless styling.
Interestingly, Mahindra seems to be sticking to a sub-4-metre footprint, which suggests the new Bolero could benefit from B-segment tax incentives, helping it achieve competitive on-road pricing. To achieve this, the front and rear bumpers have been compacted to stay within the length limit, much like the current Bolero and Bolero Neo.

One of the most noticeable changes is the flattened roof and straight window line, which now aligns seamlessly with the bonnet and rear windshield. This contributes to the SUV’s boxy charm and gives it that signature “mini-Defender” vibe. Spy shots also reveal squared-off wheel arches, almost vertical door shut lines, and what appear to be flush door handles—potentially similar to those on the XUV700. The test mule also sported large alloy wheels, likely 17 or even 18 inches.
At the front, the design continues to evolve. For the first time, the Bolero features round headlamps, flanking a wide grille with vertical slats and the new Twin Peaks Mahindra logo. The SUV maintains its tough and upright stance, which is expected to appeal to fans of traditional SUV design.
Under the skin, the new Bolero may shift to a monocoque chassis with a front-wheel-drive layout, as earlier spy shots have hinted. This could bring notable improvements in ride comfort and dynamics, especially if it gets an independent suspension setup on all four wheels.
Powering the SUV is expected to be the familiar 1.5L mHawk 100 diesel engine, delivering 100 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. It may be offered with both manual and automatic gearbox options.
As Mahindra gears up for the launch of this new-gen Bolero, it’s clear the company is blending modern features with the rugged essence that made the SUV a favourite. With its fresh design and potential upgrades, the next-gen Bolero could be a compelling option in the compact SUV space.
